Massachusetts Senate Ways and Means Committee

Dear Senator,

It is truly astonishing that Massachusetts may actually enact Bill S. 2134 given its facial violations of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution and Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution:  Section 1 states that no state shall "deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws".  Massachusetts Bill S. 2134 gives unequal protection in employment to Muslims.

Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, employers with 15 or more employees cannot fire, refuse to hire, or treat workers unfairly because of their religious beliefs.  Massachusetts Bill S. 2134 discriminates against all other religions.

Like everyone else, Muslims’ employment rights are protected by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Fourteenth Amendment.   

But unlike everyone else your state may give Muslims a powerful committee that will out flank, out rank and diminish the employment opportunities for non-Muslims.

Establishing a superior legal status for one group of people is a dangerous proposition that threatens the rights and opportunities of every American.

I urge you to respect the equal protection provisions of the United States Constitution which is guaranteed to all citizens by declining to approve this unfair legislation.

If Bill S 2134 becomes law, I will join thousands of other citizens to urge the United States Department of Justice to investigate this statute and bring appropriate charges.
